This Menade Verdejo Ecologica expresses the freshness and wildness of the Verdejo grape. The grapes come from various plots in and around Rueda, growing in gravelly, clay-rich, and calcareous soils. The vines are between 20 and 25 years old. The grapes are given ample time to ripen perfectly and develop their characteristics, thanks in part to the unique soil structure.
 Organic viticulture at Menade

Menade Winery was founded in 2005, but has a particularly long history. This family-owned winery is run by the Sanz family, consisting of brothers Marco and Ricardo and sister Alejandra. The formal family history begins in 1820, when their ancestors tended vineyards in a wide variety of locations that now form part of the DO Rueda. With vineyards located at over 700 meters above sea level, they strive for a balance between pruning and maintaining green cover. They have replaced copper and sulfur with biodynamic infusions and conduct test pits to identify soil deficiencies and introduce plants to oxygenate it and serve as natural compost. The Sanz brothers are strong advocates of biological control of stem diseases. After pruning, they purify the soil and vines with ozone and treat them with trichoderma, a rapidly replicating fungus that prevents potential attacks. Ozone is also used during the growth cycle as a natural disinfectant against mold and bacteria.

The vinification of Menade Rueda Verdejo Ecologico
Three harvests are carried out for the production: one when the grapes are underripe, one during the day, done manually, and finally one at night using mechanical techniques. Once harvested, the grapes are cooled considerably before being pressed. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with wild yeasts (from the vineyard) at 18 and 22 degrees Celsius. The wine is then briefly aged on its lees.

It's a true joy to serve, as most bottles remain in Spain, partly due to the impeccable quality. The joy begins the moment the bottle is opened; as soon as the juice is aired, a vibrant aroma of citrus and wildflowers is released. In the glass, it glows a beautiful bright gold with a slight green sheen. It has the most beautiful aromas of apple, lime, and grapefruit, complemented by green herbs and gooseberries. The palate is delightful, with a lovely fresh start on the tongue, hints of tropical fruit, citrus, grapefruit, and wild herbs. The finish is long and displays spicy mineral notes.
