This GSM wine is made from the grape varieties used to create this top-quality wine: Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre, all native to the south of France. The Montbiset winery is located in the small village of Saint Lucia, near the well-known city of Montpellier. However, the vineyards for this red wine are spread throughout the Lanquedoc-Roussillon region. This allows the Montbiset winemaker to consistently produce a superb wine.
The old vineyard of Montbiset
In recent years, the Montbiset winery has invested heavily in its vineyards. Some have been renovated, and the old vines are treated like royalty. This attention is especially evident in this red wine, with its depth and richness from start to finish. The old, thick trunks are now producing a magnificent harvest, albeit a low yield, but the bunches that can be harvested are fantastic. The Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre are all given the time to absorb as much nutrition as possible. Combined with a perfect climate between the warmth of the sun and the cooling breeze, this red wine has become one of our favorites. After harvest, this wine is aged for several months in oak barrels, allowing the juice to develop a full, balanced finish.
The aroma and taste of the red Montbiset wine
We open the bottle and immediately smell abundant black fruit, interspersed with hints of spice from the Syrah grape. In the glass, it erupts into a bright red with a slight purple sheen. After swirling it, we smell a robust bouquet of blackcurrants, blackberries, and Mediterranean herbs. Delicious, and the aroma alone takes us away. The wine glides over our lips, and our tongues are treated to an explosion of flavors, noting nuances of black fruit, bay leaf, and black pepper. Refined notes of chocolate and berries linger on the cheeks. The finish balances everything out, with ripeness and juiciness, all perfectly balanced. Yes, what a winner!
