This renowned red wine is, of course, made from the Carmenere grape, the grape associated with Chilean viticulture. It has completely captured our hearts because this truly is a true masterpiece of the Montes family's craftsmanship. In 1987, Aurelio founded the winery with a group of well-known wine enthusiasts. He set out on a small scale to produce the country's finest wines, and he more than succeeded. Through considerable effort and perseverance, he expanded Montes to a whopping 600 hectares of vineyards. But he has never compromised on quality. This has earned him several prestigious international wine awards. Over the years, the trophy cabinet has grown enormous, with the crowning achievement being the title of "Chile's most influential winemaker." And that's not something you achieve overnight! The winery has now been passed on to his son, and its future is assured.
The harvest of the Carmenere grape
For this Montes Alpha Carmenere, the grapes are grown in two very important vineyards in the Colchagua Valley, specifically the Apalta and Marchigüe vineyards. It's a true celebration here, and everything is perfect. The soil structure with many different layers and the perfect climate. The river provides the perfect cooling, allowing the harvest to grow beautifully and evenly. It is therefore harvested entirely by hand, and a very strict selection process is applied during the Carmenere grape harvest. Only the very best grapes are collected and brought to Montes. After pressing, this red wine is aged for a full twelve months in oak barrels. The barrels are stored in Montes's magnificent wine cellar, where this red wine builds its full potential.
