We've known the Montes winery for years, of course, as it has a long history. It all began with its founding in 1987 by Aurelio Montes and three partners. They launched the winery, which later grew into a global player. Today, Montes boasts an impressive 600 hectares of vineyards spread across five different regions. The winery has received numerous awards, with the grand prize being the title of "most influential winemaker in the country." This award went to Aurelio Montes. Now, the reins have been passed to Aurelio Jr., and he continues to craft Chile's finest wines in the same way.

The Casablanca vineyard of Montes

The Chardonnay bunches for this top-quality wine come from the Casablanca vineyard. The strong winds off the Pacific Ocean ensure the bunches receive precisely what they need, resulting in a very slow and consistent harvest. Casablanca's soil structure is perfect, containing plenty of clay, gravel, and rock, allowing the vines to develop deep roots. This allows them to easily absorb moisture and nutrients, resulting in large and vigorous bunches. All bunches are harvested by hand and rigorously selected to guarantee the purity of this Montes Alpha Chardonnay.

Full and very powerful, this Montes Alpha Chardonnay

Once the Chardonnay grapes are brought in, this white wine matures for several months on the lees, becoming fuller and creamier in flavor. But that's not all, because after the initial aging, it also undergoes 12 months of oak aging in French oak barrels, further enhancing its potency. In the glass, this wine reveals a dark yellow color with a golden glow. The most beautiful aromas emerge, and we noted notes of pineapple, peach, roasted nuts, vanilla, and a touch of toast. The palate is quite an experience, creamy on the palate with abundant tropical fruit. Lovely notes of peach and apricot are complemented by vanilla and freshly roasted nuts. The finish is long, with excellent balance and ripe flavors of yellow fruit.
