We've known Montgras Winery for years as one of the world's best wineries. Since their founding in 1993, they've been surprising everyone with their Chilean wines. Their trophy cabinets are overflowing, and they hold a solid position in many top 10 lists of Chilean wines. We, too, have been fans of Montgras wines since the very beginning—from the moment they first arrived in the Netherlands. They excelled in both red and white wines. So we were pleasantly surprised when this Early Harvest Rosé from Montgras was announced.

The Chilean wines of Montgras

Montgras's red and white wines have dominated the Dutch wine market for years. Every Dutch wine lover goes wild for Montgras wines. Classic grape varieties like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay, in particular, have become a hit. However, in recent years, Montgras has invested heavily in less conventional grape varieties, which are also popular in Chile. This rosé was also chosen there. No Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, or Malbec, but Grenache and Carignan—two giants from the south of France. Thanks to the perfect location of the Montgras Early Harvest Rosé vineyard, these two grape varieties thrive. The conditions in the Colchagua Valley, where Grenache and Carignan are grown, are comparable to those in the Languedoc-Roussillon.

Carignan and Grenache make up a balanced portion of Montgras Early Harvest Rosé, each accounting for 50%, resulting in a well-balanced rosé wine. The grapes are harvested in the second week of February, which is early even by Chilean standards. This gives the grapes a rich flavor. Pressing the grapes extremely cool and fermenting them without the skins gives Montgras Early Harvest Rosé its attractive salmon-pink color. The flavor is a parade of fresh strawberries, soft raspberries, freshly cut watermelon, and red cherries.
