The wines of Montgras
Since 1993, the year Vina Montgras was founded, the winery has been a leader in Chilean wines. They know the country like the back of their hand and precisely where each grape varietal thrives. Knowledge has always been a cornerstone of Montgras' history. Only the best experts and most experienced winemakers were recruited to bring the wines to great success. With the Montgras Handcrafted series, they take it a step further—true museum pieces that are almost a shame to drink.
A new winemaker is hired for each Montgras Handcrafted wine. Santiago Margozzini was chosen for the first (number 1) wine. You wouldn't guess it from his name, but he's a German with years of experience in Chilean wines. He chose a unique yet distinctive grape: the Riesling, the hallmark of German wines. He translated the depth of the German Riesling into a formidable Chilean version, and he more than succeeded.
Buy Montgras Handcrafted 1 Rare Riesling wine
The vineyard where the Riesling grapes grow is located in Bio Bio Valley, a small wine region with a unique signature. The mineral-rich soil gives the Riesling grapes their characteristic flavor. After harvest and pressing, the juice matures for five months on its own yeast cells. Santiago Margozzini avoids oak, simply because the grapes are already so good on their own. The result is a mouth-watering wine. A soft, distinctive acidity forms the foundation of Montgras Handcrafted 1 Rare Riesling. Refined notes of jasmine and small mandarin oranges complete the picture. A Chilean Riesling that is truly remarkable. Be quick, though. Only 6,000 bottles were produced, and only a small portion are for the Dutch market.
