Molsino is a prime location in Gattinara, at an altitude of 350 to 420 meters. Nervi Gattinara Molsino is a 100 percent Nebbiolo grape produced only in the best vintages from select grapes from this vineyard. The Nebbiolo grape, called Spanna here, produces its own distinct wine style in Gattinara, noticeably different from its Langhe cousins. While many wines from this appellation may have a structure reminiscent of Barbaresco, they are generally more fragrant, fruitier, more vibrant, and often slightly lower in alcohol than the Nebbiolo wines from southern Piedmont. The aroma of Gattinara wines is often reminiscent of the spicy, traditional Pinot Noirs of Burgundy.

The best Nebbiolo vines for Vigna Molsino Conterno

Nervi is the oldest continuously operating winery in Gattinara, comprising 28.5 hectares of some of the region's finest crus. The winery was founded in 1906 by Italo Nervi. The Nervi family built the estate's reputation and ran it continuously until 1991, when a steel magnate named Germano Bocciolone purchased the estate. Twenty years later, a group of Norwegian investors led by a passionate wine collector, Erling Astrup, acquired the winery. Astrup sought to improve Nervi's quality and sought advice from his longtime friend Roberto Conterno. In 2018, the group decided to sell the winery to Roberto Conterno. The vines are planted in volcanic soil rich in minerals and clay, allowing the Nebbiolo grapes to develop unique characteristics. The grapes are harvested by hand at peak ripeness. In the winery, they are then destemmed and gently crushed. The grapes ferment in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. This is followed by maceration on the skins for approximately 3 to 4 weeks, which enhances the color, aroma, and flavor. Malolactic fermentation takes place in oak barrels. Finally, the wine is aged for 4 years in oak barrels.

How does the Nervi Gattinara Vigna Molsino Conterno taste?

This garnet-red Vigna Molsino has aromas of dried cherries, herbs, mint, and earth on the nose. The palate is very refined, pure, and classic. The aromas resonate alongside structured tannins and acidity. It is complex with a pleasantly long finish.
