From vineyard to bottle

The origin, grapes and craftsmanship behind this wine.

The vineyards are located in the southern Rhône Valley at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail hills in the village of Vacqueyras. The village was classified as an appellation en cru in the southern part of the Rhône wine-growing region in 1990. The vineyards cover nearly 1,200 hectares and are situated on the left bank of the Rhône River in the communes of Vacqueyras and Sarrians in the Vaucluse department. The soil consists of sandy and gravelly clay, which provides an excellent base for this Oratorio.

This La Pourpre Vacqueyras is produced by the renowned Ogier Caves des Papes winery in the wine-producing village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Ogier has been producing wine here since 1948. After acquiring several vineyards and acquiring the necessary viticultural expertise, the winery dedicated itself entirely to producing high-quality wine. The winery's beautiful Roman-style buildings are located in the cellars, which date back to the 20th century. In the cellars, which date back to the 20th century, the Ogier wines undergo traditional vinification, with further aging taking place in oak barrels. The wine is vinified traditionally and consists of a blend of 65 percent Grenache and 35 percent Syrah. The grapes are rigorously inspected and selected after harvest, as only the finest juice is good enough for this La Pourpre Vacqueyras. The wine is aged for six to twelve months in French oak barrels. This maturation gives the red wine its unique character.

The Vacqueyras Oratoria glows ruby red in the glass. It is passionate, sultry, and simultaneously spicy. Upon pouring, it immediately releases delicious aromas of red and black fruit, along with herbs like rosemary and thyme. It has a robust flavor and delicate hints of cherry and violet. It is a rich and powerful wine with a long, pleasant finish. A perfect pairing with game dishes and rich meat dishes.
