Ortiga Tempranillo

Who calls their wine "nettle"? Ortiga literally means "nettle." Well, this beautiful Spanish winery does, because they're proud of their wine. A wine grown entirely organically from the Tempranillo grape. Among the beautiful vineyards, many Ortiga herbs grow, something the winery allows to showcase the diversity of the Spanish landscape. Pure nature, as the Ortiga winemaker explains! And we taste it in the fantastic Ortiga wine series. The big name behind these beautiful organic wines is none other than Bodegas Yuntero from the historic La Mancha region. This winery, active since 1954, produces the finest wines from the region. It's no wonder, as it's a cooperative with 700 members. Together they create the finest wines, including this Ortiga Tempranillo.

The vineyards for this red Ortiga wine are located in the Vino de la Tierra de Castilla region. Here, the climate is perfect for the Tempranillo grape. Plenty of sunshine and cool temperatures create a perfect balance between warmth and coolness. This allows the Tempranillo to be grown entirely organically. The strong soil structure, where wine has been grown for hundreds of years, gives the harvest the power that we taste in this red wine. When the Tempranillo are ripe, they are harvested in the morning to protect them from oxidation and bruising during transport to Ortiga. Upon arrival, they are rigorously inspected to ensure only the best bunches are used in this red wine.

The aroma and taste of the Ortiga Tempranillo

This makes it soft and creamy with a very pleasant mouthfeel. But let's start at the beginning when pouring this red wine, because then we see a bright red color with a purple hue. It has a rich aroma and gives us impressions of ripe red fruit with hints of chocolate and spices. The palate is soft, leaving the palate with delicate and smooth notes of blackberry and cherry with a touch of spice. The finish is smooth and refreshing, which completes this red wine.
