We also had no idea such beautiful wines were made in Morocco. Yet, the Ouled Thaleb winery is almost a hundred years old, making it the oldest winery in the country. In 1923, Ouled Thaleb planted its first vineyards in the Benslimane region. The vineyards are characterized by their location, as they are situated near the coast, resulting in a cooler climate than in other regions of Morocco. The soil structure is perfect, with plenty of gravel and sand, allowing the roots to dig deep. This is essential, as summers can be very hot. Nevertheless, they are producing excellent harvests today, resulting in this fantastic Moroccan white wine.
The unique blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier
In Morocco's Casablanca region, the Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier grape varieties used for this white Ouled Thaleb wine are grown. This is a unique combination of Moroccan soil. The bunches receive all they need and are kept cool by the ocean breeze. This creates a slow and balanced growing season, allowing for a magnificent, full harvest. Harvesting takes place entirely by hand in the early morning to select only the finest bunches for this white wine. The bunches are transported in small crates to Ouled Thaleb, where the winemaker creates a uniquely powerful blend of both grape varieties.
Creamy and very powerful this white Ouled Thaleb Imperiale
It's a joy to drink, and that starts the moment you open the bottle. Immediately afterward, a beautiful aroma of tropical and exotic fruit, accompanied by mineral notes, is released. In the glass, it emanates a lemon yellow color with a very faint green shimmer. The aroma reveals notes of ripe pear, apricot, and crisp apples. The palate offers a beautiful balance between freshness and a rich, creamy character. Lovely hints of ripe pear, apricot, peach, a touch of floral, and crisp apples. The sultry yet refreshing finish makes this white wine very enjoyable.
