In the heart of the Rías Baixas wine region stands the relatively young winery Paco & Lola. Located around O Salnés, it was founded in 2005 by a group of winegrowers who wanted to join forces, sharing the necessary expertise and access to the finest grapes. This led to the formation of a cooperative, and the winery has grown rapidly. Many winegrowers saw the success and joined Paco & Lola, bringing the total to four hundred. In the Galician wine region, the pride of the region, the Albarino grape, is used for white wine. This grape thrives in the relatively cool climate.
The old Albarino vineyard of Paco & Lola
For this Paco & Lola, they use old vineyards that were auctioned off Albarino grapes. The old vines have spent years in Galicia's powerful soil. These soils are rich in limestone, gravel, and marl, allowing the vines to draw abundant nutrients from the soil. The fresh ocean breeze lends the wines from the Rías Baixas region their own distinctive style: fresh, mineral, stylish, and powerful!
Full and very powerful this
As soon as we open this wine, we smell the freshness, as it immediately reveals aromas of green herbs and citrus fruit. In the glass, this Paco & Lola Albarino is a light yellow with a greenish hue. On the nose, we are surprised by notes of gooseberry, peach, lime peel, and acacia. This fresh style continues on the palate, with abundant ripe flavors of lime, green apple, and pear. These later give way to notes of citrus, orange peel, and lychee.
