With respect for the Bordeaux grape varieties that shaped Napa Valley, Papillon is Orin Swift's classic Bordeaux style. Rich, full-bodied, and powerful, the wine is crafted to be both large and muscular, yet nuanced and delicate. Just like the label, the wine displays a multitude of impressions, thanks in part to the Napa Valley vineyards, including grapes from the Atlas Peak and St. Helena AVAs, which make this blend truly exceptional.
High quality from Orin Swift
In 1998, Davig Phinney founded Orin Swift. He has a long history of making wine at luxury wineries in the Napa Valley. He ultimately wanted to start his own business, and he started small. His vision was to combine excellent wines with creative labels, and thus continue to grow. And with success. Incidentally, the name Orin Swift is a tribute to his parents. Orin is his father's middle name and Swift is his mother's maiden name. Today, the winery has grown into a global player in the field of the finest American wines.
The grapes come from the Napa Valley, where they develop optimally. The climate is perfect for Bordeaux grapes because warm days are interspersed with a refreshing ocean breeze. The vineyards are situated at a higher elevation, which helps them cool down.
Completely hand-harvested for this Papillon Orin Swift
After manual harvesting and rigorous selection, this Papillon matures for an impressive 15 months in oak barrels in Orin Swift's cellars. Forty-five percent of the barrels used are new, imparting numerous nuances to the wine. An inky black, dark garnet-like color, the aroma reveals notes of blackcurrant and blackberry with hints of Kirsch, Madagascan vanilla, and cigar box. A velvety and rich palate with nuances of dark plum, blueberry, and fennel, fresh leather, and a subtle minerality. What a powerhouse this Papillon red wine is.
