In southern Italy, specifically in the warm Puglia region, we find the Petraio winery. The winery is still family-owned and produces three different wines, including this red Primitivo. The grapes grow in a wonderful climate full of sunshine, which gives the grapes their ripeness and softness. The fresh breeze from the sea contributes to the cooling of the harvest, allowing the grapes to ripen evenly. This allows the Primitivo grapes to mature peacefully and draw strength from the rich soil structure.
Completely hand-harvested for this Petraio Primitivo
Petraio's old vineyard produces a rich but low yield, which is harvested entirely by hand. Harvesting always takes place early in the morning to prevent the grapes from oxidizing during transport. Each bunch is visually inspected by hand, as only the finest bunches are ultimately used in this red wine.
Wood aging for Petraio's Primitivo wine
The entire wine is aged for approximately 4 to 6 months in oak barrels, which gives it greater depth and richness. This is immediately evident on the nose, with lovely hints of plum and cherry complemented by vanilla, nuts, and a touch of oak. On the palate, this Petraio Primitivo is full-bodied and robust, with aromas of abundant black fruit, a hint of toffee, chocolate, and a touch of spice and vanilla. A complete glass, highly recommended!
