The Sangiovese grape has become an indispensable part of the warm wine region of Puglia in southern Italy. The Petraio winery also boasts several old vineyards where Sangiovese thrives. This is partly due to the abundant sunshine the grapes receive, but also to the strong soil structure. The vineyard, which is decades old and has developed deep roots, allows the plants to withstand the intense sun and draw significant strength from the soil. Besides the sun's strength, the Sangiovese also receives a cooling breeze from the sea breeze, creating the perfect balance and ensuring the fruit ripens very evenly.
Completely hand-harvested for this Petraio Sangiovese
When the harvest is ripe, the bunches are gathered entirely by hand. According to the winemaker, this is crucial for achieving the pure style of Petraio wines. Each Sangiovese bunch is inspected, as only the finest bunches make it into the bottle. The bunches are transported in small crates to Petraio's press, where the dark juice is aged in oak barrels for several months. The red wine matures and gains softness and strength from the aging process.
Full and very powerful this Petraio Sangiovese
What a silky smooth wine, with beautiful ripe aromas of strawberry and black cherry with light oak. The flavor is partly due to the vineyard's perfect location. The soil climate is ideal for the Sangiovese grape, and the abundant sunshine produces plump, full-bodied grapes, which you can taste in this Petraio. The grapes are lightly aged in oak barrels, giving it that extra something special. This is evident in the aroma: abundant fruit richness and lovely soft nuances of light oak, vanilla, and black cherry. The palate of this Petraio Sangiovese is soft and rounded, with a beautiful bouquet of blackberries, cherries, vanilla, and spices. What a stunner!
