Pieropan's Soave Classico Calvarino is considered the most authentic and traditional expression of Soave wine, since its first production in 1971. The historic Calvarino vineyard is rich in clay and basaltic tuff, which gives the wine a wonderful flavor and the necessary minerality.

The Pieropan success story

With the purchase of a plot of land in 1901, Leonildo Pieropan laid the foundation for the success story of the family business, which is now run by the fourth generation. The Pieropan estate covers 58 hectares of vineyards, situated on the stony hills of Soave Classico. The Pieropan family has been producing wines in Soave since the 1890s. They were the first winery to bottle a wine with the name Soave on the label in the early 1930s. Nino Pieropan took over from his father in 1970 and was the first winery in Soave to produce a single-vineyard wine, "Calvarino," in 1971.

Long maturation for Calvarino Soave Classico

The name Calvarino derives from "little trials," referring to the difficulty of working the land and the winding path required to reach the soil. From this beautiful and complex terroir comes the most characteristic of the Soave, signed by Pieropan. The grapes are harvested by hand, with a strict selection for ripeness. In the cellar, they are destemmed and pressed. Temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation then takes place in stainless steel tanks. Afterward, the wine is transferred to concrete tanks to undergo malolactic fermentation and age on its fine lees. After one year, the wine is blended and ready to be enjoyed. It has a straw-yellow color in the glass, with aromas of citrus, peach, orange peel, and jasmine on the nose. The palate is pleasantly dry, well-balanced, and very elegant, with notes of lemongrass and a hint of honey and walnut. It has a long, mineral finish with soft, fresh acidity.
