Pieropan La Rocca Soave Classico

The "La Rocca" vineyard is located on the Monte Rocchetta hill, just below the medieval castle built by the Scaligeri family in the town of Soave. The microclimate in this vineyard produces wines with a unique perfume and distinctive flavor. The grapes are harvested at peak ripeness, often as late as late October, giving the wine enormous complexity and aromatic qualities, making it a wine of outstanding quality.

The Pieropan family business was founded in 1880 in the heart of the town of Soave by Leonilde Pieropan. Initially, he was considered insane for his winemaking methods. But many years later, the company has built an excellent reputation and regularly receives awards. The fourth generation, Nino and Teresita Pieropan, run the business with the passion and skill of true winemakers who love their craft. They are widely considered representatives of the Soave area, one of the most renowned wine regions in Italy. The soil for the vines is of volcanic origin and clay-basaltic in nature. Over the years, the winery has acquired valuable sites in the hilly region, including Calvarino and La Rocca, which, developed as individual sites, annually receive the highest international awards.

After harvest, the grapes are taken to the winery where they undergo rigorous selection. The grapes are gently pressed and separated from the skins. After a short settling period of two days, the juice is transferred to stainless steel tanks where fermentation takes place under controlled temperatures. Finally, the wine is aged for a year in oak barrels and then rests in the bottle for a further four months. The result is a characterful wine with delicious aromas of exotic fruit and nuts. Its flavor is delightfully smooth, yet with plenty of hints of citrus, spices, and vanilla. The oak aging was also chosen for added character.
