Pieropan La Rocca Soave Classico Magnum 1.5L – Great white wine from chalky Soave
The Pieropan La Rocca Soave Classico is one of the most iconic white wines from Northern Italy. Its complexity and aging potential are even more evident in a magnum format. This single-vineyard wine originates from the chalky slopes surrounding the medieval castle of Soave and has been considered a benchmark for oak-aged Garganega since the 1970s.
Vineyards and region: La Rocca, Soave Classico DOC
The La Rocca vineyard faces southwest, directly below the Castello di Soave. The soil is composed entirely of limestone, unique in the Soave region, where volcanic soils predominate. The vines average 30 to 60 years old and are cultivated organically without the use of synthetic pesticides.
Vinification and grape variety: Garganega with precision and patience
The wine is made from 100% Garganega grapes , harvested at peak ripeness. After gentle pressing, fermentation takes place in 600-liter French oak tonneaux (70–80%) and large Slavonian oak barrels (20–30%).
This is followed by 12 to 15 months of maturation on the fine lees in the same barrels. During this period, the wine develops its characteristic softness, body, and aromatic complexity. After maturation, the wine undergoes further bottle aging before release.
Tasting notes: rich, creamy and salty
The aroma opens with notes of ripe yellow fruit, almond, white flowers, and a hint of honey . On the palate, La Rocca is powerful and layered, with a soft structure, fine acidity, and an elegant, salty finish. A wine that both makes an immediate impression and ages beautifully.
Serving suggestions: great wine, great cuisine
This wine pairs perfectly with white meat, lobster, creamy risottos with mushrooms or truffles, and aged cheeses . Serve at a temperature between 10 and 12°C to fully express its flavor.
A true Pieropan classic, La Rocca in magnum format offers everything you'd look for in a great white wine: power, refinement, and depth.
