This Pietra red wine from the Menhir Salento winery is made from the native Primitivo grape, of course. It's a blend we haven't seen before, but it certainly brings a party atmosphere with streamers and balloons. The vines for this Pietra red are grown at an altitude of 100 meters, creating a perfect climate. Warm, sunny afternoons and cool nights, thanks to the sea breeze and altitude, give the grapes a slow growing season. This allows the grapes to reach perfection, allowing this wine to be made using the Organic method.
The old Primitivo vineyard for this Pietra wine
The old vines, filled with the finest Primitivo grapes, produce a very warm wine. Because the old vines don't yield much, the flavors are highly concentrated. The grapes are harvested early in the morning during the last week of August/early September. The baskets are filled with the utmost precision and transported to the Pietra Manhir Salento press. There, the wine awaits a six-month aging period on the lees. This is an important period, as it develops its strength and softness.
The smell and taste of the Pietra Organic Primitivo
The result is a warm aroma of berries, cinnamon, and a hint of mint leaves. The palate of this red Pietra Primitivo is rich and very smooth, with full flavors of black fruit like blackberries, cherries, and currants. On the back of the palate, this wine offers hints of sweet spices, a touch of vanilla, and a touch of currant and plum. This wine pairs beautifully with dishes like a hearty plate of spaghetti, red meat, various cheeses, and, of course, with a gourmet meal.
