In southern Italy, in the Puglia region, lie the beautiful vineyards of Poggio del Sole, filled with the Negroamaro grape. The owner and winemaker of this fine Italian winery, Filippo Baccalaro, has extensive experience in creating accessible wines. With this red wine, too, Filippo wanted to bring out the very best in the grape, while also cultivating the perfect terroir.
The old Negroamaro vineyard of Poggio del Sole
The old vineyard is decades old and has developed deep roots, allowing it to easily absorb moisture. This is essential due to Puglia's warm summers. However, there's also plenty of natural refreshment, thanks to the sea breeze and the elevated position of the Negroamaro vineyard, approximately 100 meters above sea level.
What does Poggio del Sole red wine taste like?
A top Negroamaro from Italy, this red Poggio del Sole Negroamaro. Because it's harvested by hand, only the finest grapes are selected for this red wine. The perfect juice reveals aromas of small red and black fruit, spices, and a hint of thyme. The flavor of this Poggio del Sole Negroamaro is sublime, beautifully balanced and very smooth. The full-bodied palate offers a beautiful palette of blackberries, cherries, herbs, and abundant juicy berries. The finish is ripe and flavorful, yet not overly heavy.
What do we eat with a Negroamaro Salento?
This red wine is naturally perfect as a house wine, but it also pairs well with dishes. We're thinking of appetizers with meat, mature cheeses, duck, pigeon, or a nice piece of poultry. Its smoothness makes it a wine that adapts easily and pairs well with sweeter sauces.
