The label of this red wine, Tator Primitivo, depicts the winemaker's hands. He considers this wine the ultimate expression of his craftsmanship. Moreover, many hands are needed to produce this premium wine in Salento; everything is handcrafted. This includes maintaining the beautiful vineyards filled with Primitivo, as well as harvesting the grapes. This is done using small wooden crates, where the Primitivo grapes are placed for transport to the winery. After pressing, they are aged for ten months in French barrels in the Poggio del Volpi cellars. This top winery is located in Monteporzio Cato, twenty kilometers south of Rome. Felice Mergé founded the Italian winery in the 1990s. The estate is situated in an area between the slopes of Monte Porzio Cato and the Roman countryside in the Alban Hills, approximately twenty kilometers southeast of Rome. It is one of Italy's largest wine regions, with an optimal natural microclimate along the Tyrrhenian Sea, ideal for grape cultivation. Much of the soil is of volcanic origin.

An incredible number of points for this red Tator Primitivo

Tator is an ancient god from southeastern Italy. Like the Primitivo grape, it is inextricably linked to this region. This Primitivo wine is made from hand-harvested, overripe grapes. Tator Primitivo receives a remarkable 95 out of a possible 100 points from Luca Maroni, wine journalist and author of the most comprehensive and best wine guides on Italian wines.

Wood aging for the Poggio Le Volpi Tator Primitivo

The Tator Primitivo is allowed to unwind and develop its beautiful characteristics from the wooden barrels, ideal for a top-quality wine made from the Primitivo grape. The aroma is truly stunningly full and robust, with lovely aromas of black fruit, light spices, a touch of dark chocolate, and a touch of fig and almond. This beautiful aroma continues in the taste of this Tator Primitivo, full and robust on the palate with ripe fruit notes of blackberries, cherries, and plums. On the back of the tongue, we also tasted currants, plums, cinnamon, vanilla, chocolate, and much more. What a treasure of a wine, delicious!
