6 months of maturation in French oak
Pomares means "fruit orchards" in Portuguese. The winery has three beautiful orchards surrounding the vineyards for the Pomares series. This Portuguese red wine from Quinta Nova is made from Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, and Touriga Franca grapes. It's guaranteed to be a delicious red wine. The unique microclimate, with its incredibly warm and dry summers and cold, wet winters, allows the grapes to ripen optimally. The old vines give the plants deep roots, allowing them to draw moisture from deep within the soil. Quinta Nova's winemaker works in the vineyards daily to ensure the grapes have everything they need. When the grapes reach optimal ripeness, each varietal is harvested individually by hand. Once the grapes arrive at the press, they are sorted on large tables, after which the fruit undergoes rigorous quality control before pressing. After vinification, some of this red wine is aged in French oak barrels for six months. During this period the Pomares develops its own character.
Pomares, a Portuguese gem
The character of this red wine is very pleasant. After uncorking and pouring the wine into the glass, we see a beautiful, deep cherry-red color. A good swirl releases the most beautiful aromas. In the ripe aroma, we noted hints of red fruit, vanilla, toasted bread, and some light spices. The palate is truly fantastic, ripe and round with soft, refined tannins. A beautiful palette of black fruit, light spices, and some plums. The finish of this red wine is intense, full of flavor nuances, yet also silky smooth. A Portuguese gem!
