Porca de Murça Douro Rosé 2024 Douro, Portugal
Porca de Murça Douro Rosé 2024 belongs to one of Portugal's oldest and most renowned wine brands, yet it also reveals a strikingly fresh, youthful side of the Douro. This rosé is built on floral aromas, cherry, and raspberry, with a lively acidity that makes it perfect for sunny lunches and a glass on the terrace. The wine can be enjoyed now, but can also be stored for another 5–10 years.
Vineyards and Region
The style of this rosé originates in the Douro, but distinctly opts for freshness and lightness within a region often more readily associated with power and concentration.
- Location / Origin: This wine comes from the Douro Valley, one of Portugal's classic wine regions. Within Real Companhia Velha's portfolio, Porca de Murça is the leading Douro line, with a style that is deliberately young, fruity, and immediately drinkable.
- Regional Context: The brand name refers to Vila de Murça in the Douro and is linked to a local legend about a wild sow that later became the symbol of the village and the brand. As a result, Porca de Murça not only has regional origins but also its own unique local story.
Vinification and Aging
The vinification here is entirely focused on pure fruit, fresh tension, and a clean, light rosé style.
- Harvest & Selection: The grapes are harvested by hand and transported in 40 kg crates to the cellar. After manual selection, they are destemmed and carefully processed, which helps to keep the fruit bright and precise.
- Fermentation: After 24 hours of settling, the must ferments in stainless steel tanks at 14–16 °C. This keeps the floral notes and red fruit beautifully lively and supports the fresh style of the wine.
- Aging / Oak Maturation: The wine continues to age in stainless steel tanks until bottling. This maintains its crisp, pure style, built entirely on fruit and freshness.
Grape Composition
The blend is classic Douro, but here clearly focused on elegance and fresh drinkability.
- Tinta Barroca – Douro: Tinta Barroca gives the wine extra roundness and a softer fruit core.
- Touriga Nacional – Douro: Touriga Nacional brings floral lift and extra aromatic precision to the blend.
- Touriga Franca – Douro: Touriga Franca supports the structure and helps the wine maintain its fresh, juicy character.
Tasting Notes and Serving Suggestions
Attractive rosé in the glass, with an aromatic nose of rose petals, cherry, and raspberry. On the palate, the fruit beautifully matches the aroma, with a lively acidity that gives the wine a lot of tension and suppleness. The finish is long, fresh, and delightfully drinkable.
- Serving Temperature: 8–10 °C works best here, as this range keeps the red fruit fresh and highlights the lively acidity especially well.
- Dishes: Pizza, carpaccio, and salads pair very naturally with this rosé, as it has enough freshness and fruit to beautifully accompany light, savory dishes.
