Moldovan wines have become very popular in recent years, and we understand why. They are wines with plenty of character and soft aromas and flavors. Chateau Purcari is located in the southern part of Moldova, near the tri-border area where Moldova, Ukraine, and Transnistria meet. While Transnistria doesn't officially exist, it's still considered a country by the locals. The name of this beautiful chateau comes from the village where it's located, Purcari. Vineyards and the ultra-modern winery of Chateau Purcari surround the village. This hasn't always been the case, but in recent years, significant investments have been made, ensuring that all modern technologies are in place. This is reflected in this white Pinot Grigio.

Pinot Grigio from Moldova

We can certainly call it unique, because this white Pinot Grigio from Moldova is fantastic. The winery has a long history, dating back to the 12th century. Even then, wines were being cultivated on the exceptionally fertile soil. In 1827, Emperor Nicholas I of Russia granted the winery the status of the first specialized winery in Bessarabia. This brought a great deal to this wonderful Moldovan winery. They have since received numerous international wine awards, and the quality of their wines continues to improve year after year. Their wines have even graced the tables of, among others, Sarar Nicholas II and King George V of England. Yes, that's quite something.

The smell and taste of the Purcari 1827 Pinot Grigio

The vineyard where the Pinot Grigio grapes grow is now mature and is producing a top harvest. The rich climate, with plenty of warmth but also the right amount of coolness, gives the harvest its full potential. The ripening process is therefore long and very balanced, allowing the Pinot Grigio grapes to absorb a lot from the powerful soil. Once the grapes have reached full ripeness, they are harvested entirely by hand. Each bunch is inspected to obtain the purest juice. The aroma of this Purcari 1827 Pinot Grigio offers notes of green apple, pear, and a touch of fresh mint leaves. The taste is intensely fruity, with prominent notes of apple, peach, grapefruit, and lime peel. The firm attack creates a warm mouthfeel with refined, soft tannins that make everything very exciting.
