This Limite Norte is a wine from one of Ramon Bilbao's latest creations. It's a series of wines that explore the easternmost and westernmost regions of Rioja. For this white version, a blend of 50 percent Maturana Blanca and 50 percent Tempranillo Blanco was chosen. This blend was selected from vineyards in the westernmost part of Rioja Alta, where an extreme climate prevails, and aging in French barrels has resulted in a fresh and balanced wine.
Quality Riojas from Ramon Bilbao
Ramon Bilbao Winery was founded in 1924. The winery has been passed down through generations. Everything within the winery is focused on producing the highest quality red and white wines. The Tempranillo grape generally forms the basis of their Rioja wines. In the winery, they combine modern techniques with ancient Spanish traditions. The climate is typically warmer than in Rioja Alta, yet the high altitude in Rioja Baja ensures cooler nights, allowing the grapes to develop good acidity.
The vineyards are located at an altitude of 450 meters in Cuzcurrita. Thanks to the extreme continental climate, this white wine retains its acidity and freshness. The vines are planted on shallow alluvial and gravelly soils. Harvest usually takes place in early October. Once arrived at the winery, a strict selection follows, followed by cold maceration. The wine is then aged for six months in French oak barrels and then for a further twelve months in bottle.
A fresh Limite Norte Blanco
But the long wait is rewarded with a beautiful pale yellow wine with aromas of citrus, stone fruit, and hints of white flowers. It's a fresh wine with excellent acidity and pleasant tannins. It's balanced and has a pleasantly long finish.
