We consider it truly one of the finest ports from Portugal. The classic port house Ramos Pinto produces this ten-year-aged port. A true showpiece, full-bodied and creamy with an intensely soft character.
The different vineyards of Ramos Pinto
Ramos Pinto produces several single-vineyard Ports, capturing the special qualities of each vineyard in the wine. Quinta de Ervamoira is located in the Douro Superior, on the left bank of the Douro River where it meets the Côa River, and is the winery's experimental vineyard. Here, 240 hectares of vines are planted vertically, a departure from the traditional terraced rows that climb horizontally up the steep slopes rising from the river. Vertical planting allows for greater spacing between the vines, resulting in less fruit per plant but more concentrated fruit flavors. Production per vine is decreasing, while total production per hectare is increasing. Like most of the land along the Douro, the soil in Ervamoira is brittle and very poor.
Made from quality wines from Quinta de Ervamoira, blending harvests from an average of 10 different years. The newer wines make it robust and fresh, while the older wines add complexity and heritage. The characteristic aroma and flavor are the result of our winemaker's expertise.
The fruity aromas of Ramos Pinto 10 Years
This port is orange-red in color with a hint of green. It has a well-rounded, generous aroma, and the wine's fruity flavors include orange, apricot, and plum. Vanilla and old port wine barrels create the woody aromas. On the palate, the fresh fruit flavors emerge, framed by the oak aging. There is good structure and a perfect balance between fruit and alcohol. The palate is smooth and full. After the initial oily sensation, a fresh, soft fruitiness emerges, finishing with a slightly acidic, woody note. This port pairs well with shellfish salad with tomato and onion, and with desserts made with dried fruit and nuts, orange marmalade, and eggs.
