This port has been awarded a whopping 93 Parker points, which isn't surprising, considering what a fantastic glass of port it is. It's matured for a full twenty years in traditional oak "Port pipes." And that's what we taste: a unique style with a wealth of flavors.
Port from the oldest Ramos Pinto vineyard
Founded in 1880, Ramos Pinto is a classic port house with a rich history. Quality is always paramount at this house. They use only grapes from their own vineyards, which is quite unusual in the Douro. Their philosophy is that the quality of their wines begins in the soil of the Douro region. This philosophy remains true today, resulting in exceptional wines that can be enjoyed again and again.
Ramos Pinto produces several single-vineyard ports, capturing the special qualities of each vineyard. The Ramos Pinto 20-Year Tawny is made from a selection of different plots from one of the oldest vineyards in the Douro region, Quinta do Bom Retiro.
Lively aromas after twenty years of wood aging
There is a vibrant aroma with a velvety texture. The aromas include fruit (grapefruit, apricot, almond, hazelnut, and cocoa bean); wood (vanilla, old port wine barrels, and phenol); toasted aromas such as cinnamon, caramel, and coffee; and ethereal aromas of stearin and iodine. Soft and dry on the palate, the wine is complemented by a rich and generous persistence. It has a fine and delicious attack. The elegance of the initial palate is maintained by a complex succession of ripe and dried fruit and nuts in a fresh and licorice-like harmony.
Delicious as an aperitif or after dinner, this Tawny also pairs well with chocolate, cheeses, and cream-based desserts or desserts that aren't overly sweet. It pairs beautifully with dried fruit and nuts, nut tarts, and Swiss rolls.
