The balance between innovation and tradition
Founded in 1880, Ramos Pinto's history for decades has been characterized by a balance between innovation and respect for tradition. Besides producing wines of exceptional quality, the estate is renowned for its knowledge of terroir and pioneering viticulture. Through a strict production policy, the selection of the finest Douro grape varieties, and systematic technical and technological research, the estate has established itself as a benchmark for producing superior quality wines in Portugal.
Ramos Pinto has four estates in the Douro Valley: Quinta do Bom Retiro and Quinta da Urtiga, located in Cima Corgo, as well as Quinta dos Bons Ares and Quinta de Ervamoira, in the Douro Superior. These four estates cover an area of 890 hectares. The grapes from Quinta de Ervamoira give structure, fruit intensity, and body to the vintages. However, it is in Quinta do Born Retiro and Quinta da Urtiga that these wines achieve complexity and elegance. Committed to improving its connection with nature and the environment, Ramos Pinto is working towards this goal by implementing organic farming and increasing biodiversity in the vineyards. This is a legacy the House is proud to pass on to future generations.
The 30-Year-Old Tawny is Ramos Pinto's flagship port, made from vineyards in the best production areas of the Douro Demarcated Region. It is a blend of wines aged an average of three decades in oak in the Vila Nova de Gaia cellars. Foot-tread and fermented in traditional granite lagares.
This admirable 30 Years Tawny
This wine has a beautiful tawny color with orange hues. It has an admirably elegant aroma. It begins warm and charming. With aging, aromas of vanilla, dried fruit, and nuts immediately emerge. Stirring the glass reveals spicy notes such as cinnamon and cocoa. It is satiny and long-lasting on the palate. A taste of nuts like almond and hazelnut is followed by a surprising and pleasant freshness produced by ethereal flavors, culminating in a touch of licorice.
