The grapes for this Rockpool Chenin Blanc come from an old vineyard in Stellenbosch. The terroir is unique, and the vines are deeply rooted in slate soil. Winemaker Hannes Mayers knows exactly what the grapes need and treats nature with great respect. During the winemaking process, he experimented with Russian oak for the first time. This has given this Chenin Blanc a particularly authentic character. Full-bodied with a fresh acidity.
The unique vineyards for Rockpool Chenin Blanc
Founded in 2004, the Lomond winery is surrounded by a unique climate. Cooling winds allow the grapes to ripen slowly, developing greater complexity. Surrounding the small town of Gansbaai, the winery manages approximately 800 hectares of vineyards. The Rockpool series was born from this focus on innovation. A groundbreaking wine that is never the same as the previous vintage. The wines are known for their complexity and character, always reflecting the beautiful terroir.
The Stellenbosch vineyard overlooks False Bay. The wind provides the necessary cooling, allowing the Chenin Blanc grapes to ripen perfectly. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand and undergo a rigorous selection process in the winery. Only the very best are good enough for Rockpool wines. After a gentle pressing, the wine undergoes fermentation in Russian oak, giving it a distinctive character.
Enjoy the tropical Rockpool Chenin Blanc
We're delighted to pour this Chenin Blanc from Rockpool. A bright color with refreshing aromas immediately catches the eye. Plenty of tropical fruit with a hint of pear. Fermentation in Russian oak gives the wine a unique sweetness. The palate is well-structured and beautifully balanced with abundant fruit notes. The flavors continue into a long, lingering finish.
