Roonen Bergh BELBUL 2023

BELBUL is Heerlyckheyt Roonen Bergh's sparkling white cuvée, crafted to be crisp, fresh, and yet layered. The base is a 2023 vintage, supplemented with reserve wine from 2021 and 2022 for added depth and consistency. What is dosage in sparkling wine? It's the small amount of sugar added after aging for balance; 4 grams keeps this wine dry and precise.

Vineyards and region

The grapes come from the slopes of the Rodeberg, with iron sandstone and clay as their base. The sandstone retains heat for good ripening, the clay is fertile and moisture-retaining, the slope provides natural drainage, and the surrounding forest creates a favorable microclimate. This results in pure fruit with fresh tension and a mineral note.

Vinification and maturation

Hand-harvested. Full bunches gently pressed for a clear must, fermented in stainless steel to preserve the fruit. After fermentation, the wine rests on the fine lees for at least 6 months for added texture and cohesion. Bottled filtered. 4 g dosage for a clean, refreshing style.

Pinot Blanc – Rodeberg
20%. Provides finesse and subtle blossom.

Chardonnay – Rodeberg
20%. Provides backbone, citrus, and length.

20%. Reserve wine from 2021 & 2022 for extra layering.

Tasting notes and serving suggestions

Pale yellow and clear. Pure nose with citrus, blossom, stone fruit, and a hint of brioche. On the palate, crisp, fresh, and mineral with fine acidity, lovely tension, and freshness. The finish is perfectly balanced, with sufficient fruit density and length. Ideal as an aperitif and with seafood or other refreshing dishes.
