Wow, what a wine! So rich and concentrated, it's truly incredible. Because this Rosso del Conte Tasca d'Almerita has matured for a very long time in oak barrels, it has fully developed. The entire harvest was hand-harvested and comes from a very special vineyard, where the conditions are absolutely fantastic for Nero d'Avola.
The beginning of the Tasca d'Almerita winery
The island of Sicily is home to the Tasca d'Almerita family estates: Regaleali, Capofaro, and Whitaker. The Regaleali estate is the heart of the family's wine production. The Rosso del Conte, the first single-vineyard wine made in Sicily when it was first released in 1970, was designed as the estate's flagship wine by Count Giuseppe Tasca's creator and paved the way for today's sought-after premium Sicilian red wines. Made with only the finest Nero d'Avola, Perricone, and rare local varietals from the San Lucio vineyard, the wine spends 18 months aging in new French oak, followed by a minimum of six months of bottle ageing before release.
Situated in the heart of Sicily, in the rolling hills of the lower Madonie Mountains, the Regaleali estate has been linked to the Tasca name since it was purchased in 1830 by brothers Lucio and Carmelo Mastrogiovanni Tasca. These two innovators sought to modernize and revitalize the farm by bringing advanced agricultural technology and new methods to the isolated Sicilian countryside. Today, the family continues this progressive philosophy by focusing on sustainable viticultural practices and experimenting with lesser-known indigenous grape varieties, such as the Perricone used in this exquisite blend.
The complex taste of Tasca Rosso del Conte
The aroma reveals notes of black fruit like cherries, blackberries, and currants, as well as hints of spices, dried fruit, and figs. The complex flavor takes a while to unfold, so we recommend decanting this wine about two hours beforehand. Afterward, you'll be overwhelmed with notes of raisins, black fruit, vanilla, licorice, spices, and wood. Believe us, it's so beautiful!
