The Italian world top
Castello Banfi Winery is among the world's top Italian wineries and originates from Tuscany. Its success story begins in 1919, when John F. Mariani, an American with Italian roots, founded his wine business, Banfi Vintners, in New York. More than fifty years later, his sons, John and Harry, ventured to Tuscany and began one of the most spectacular adventures in Italian wine history. Banfi is a unique winery in the Brunello di Montalcino wine region. The estate, spanning an impressive 2,830 hectares, includes approximately 800 hectares of vineyards. This makes Castello Banfi Winery by far the largest and most important producer of Brunello di Montalcino. In addition, they produce a variety of other wines using the region's own grapes or imported varietals such as Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio.
A juicy, round and smooth wine from Banfi
The DOC Brunello di Montalcino was supplemented in 1983 with a separate appellation for wines with shorter oak aging, intended for younger drinking. The best grapes are used for Brunello, but those suitable for making a fruitier wine are ideal for wines with the DOC Rosso di Montalcino appellation. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand, with selection also taking place manually. Brunello di Montalcino is aged for twelve months in fifty percent small oak barrels and fifty percent large oak barrels. After bottling, the wines are aged in bottle for another six months. The result is a juicy, creamy, round, and supple wine, but certainly also one with a punch.
