The Carignano Del Sulcis from the Sa Raja winery originated near the sandy and windswept coast of Sardinia. This grape thrives in arid and rugged terrain and has found its perfect home in sun-drenched Italy, resulting in superb wines. Poor soils and scarce water help naturally control yields. The vine produces few bunches with remarkable aromatic concentration and perfect fruit ripeness.
A beautiful addition to Sa Raja's wine range
The red wine Carignano del Sulcis has made a beautiful addition to the wine selection of the Sardinian winery Sa Raja. This winery is located in the heart of Gallura, on the slopes of Monte Limbara, while the grapes used to make this label come from the Sulcis region, in the southwestern tip of Sardinia. The vines are approximately 15 years old and are grown on predominantly sandy soils with the presence of clayey components, slate, and basalt. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand towards the end of September. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 22 to 28 degrees Celsius. Finally, the wine is aged for nine months in steel tanks and bottled immediately afterward.
The expressive qualities of Sa Raja Carignano Del Sulcis
The Carignano del Sulcis Sa Raja wine is one of Sardinia's most characteristic red wines. Its strong personality is due to a vine with a strong and decisive character and to a sunny, Mediterranean terroir, which accentuates and enhances its best expressive qualities. In the glass, it has a fairly dark ruby red color. The aroma reveals notes of small dark berries, blackberries, blueberries, ripe cherries, and delicate spicy hints. The wine is intense and rich in flavor, with a good structure and enveloping aromas. It finishes with a very lingering aftertaste. This red wine is particularly well-suited for pairing with grilled pork, mixed grills, or roasts.
