The Salentein Barrel Pinot Noir is one of Bodega Salentein's most delicate wines. This delicious red wine has such suppleness and depth, almost a masterpiece in a bottle. Upon pouring, we were immediately struck by the beautiful Pinot Noir color. A deep, clear, dark red. On the nose, we detected sultry aromas of sun-drenched cherries, red fruit, a delicate sweetness, and a hint of spice. The Salentein Barrel Selection Pinot Noir offers a beautiful palate of warm red fruit, such as cherries and blackberries. These are interspersed with a soft spiciness and a hint of vanilla. A sensation of fullness and mildness, combined with sunny spices like cinnamon and vanilla. The fresh, sultry, and lingering finish makes it a delicious wine to pair with veal, duck, or a rich salad.
Wood aging for the Salentein Pinot Noir
As the name suggests, this Pinot Noir wine is oak-aged. For six months, this red wine is allowed to develop further in French oak barrels. The Pinot Noir grapes are planted at an altitude of 1100 meters in Mendoza, specifically in the Valle de Uco. This region offers a perfect climate for growing grapes. Bodega Salentein has certainly noticed this, as they produce beautiful wines. The Pinot Noir grape thrives in the warmth that rolls over the hills during the day and the coolness that comes with the night. The coarse, rocky soil also gives the grapes a rich terroir.
The best Pinot Noir wine from Salentein
Meindert Pon saw the potential in this area and seized his chance when, in 1997, an opportunity arose to purchase some vineyards. From that moment on, he was able to translate his passion for wine into his "own wines," as he always called them. Besides the fine everyday wines he referred to in this magnificent Barrel Selection, he also wanted to produce premium wines. He won award after award with both the Barrel Selection and the Premium wines. To further broaden the audience for "his wines," the Portillo series was created. This series of unaged wines still offers the renowned quality of Salentein.
