The origin of Salentein Numina Petit Verdot

This exceptional wine is made from 100% Petit Verdot grapes, grown in the vineyards of the El Oasis estate. Although it is the lowest-lying vineyard, it enjoys the longest growing season. This results in perfectly ripe grapes with soft tannins and gives the wine its distinctive character. The soil is alluvial, with a mixture of sand and loam. This unique soil composition contributes to the complexity and character of the grapes. The vinification of Salentein Numina Petit Verdot is a meticulous process that begins with the manual harvest of the grapes, which are transported to the winery in 400-kilogram plastic bins. The grapes then undergo a thorough selection and are destemmed before pressing. A five-day cold maceration period at a controlled low temperature helps to extract the grapes' aromatic richness. Fermentation takes place in oak barrels. After a period of 14 days, alcoholic fermentation is completed, followed by a further three days of maceration. The wine is then aged in oak barrels, where malolactic fermentation takes place, giving the wine its smoothness and complexity.

Minty and spicy notes, including licorice and bay leaf, mingle with distinct hints of dark fruits, such as juicy blueberries and black currants. The palate is intense and carried by firm, juicy tannins, giving the wine an invigorating freshness and an impressively long finish.
