There are many Vermentino wines from Italy, but this Surrau Sciala is the undisputed winner! What makes this wine so special? Firstly, the rich vineyard with its rich clay soil, formed by the erosion of the granite rocks. The granite soil gives the grapes a beautiful start, bringing freshness, minerality, and purity to this Vermentino. The Surrau Sciala vineyard is renowned; its perfect sun exposure and cool nights ensure a peaceful growing season.
A unique landscape for Surrau wines
In the northeastern part of Sadrinia, near Porto Cervo, high above the popular bays of the Costa Smeralda, the granite formations of the Gallura create a bizarre landscape. They are difficult to work with, yet extremely mineral-rich. The heat of the day is countered by a strong wind, which aerates the vineyards with a cooling breeze. This creates a unique microclimate zone, whose significant temperature differences between day and night allow for excellent grapes. The potential of this unique landscape was recognized by brothers Tino, Salvatore, and Gianfranco Demuro, who founded the winery in 2004.
A beloved Italian wine, this Limizzani
The grapes are harvested by hand, and to prevent the adverse effects of the warm weather during harvest, they are immediately cooled after being destemmed and crushed. Fermentation then takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 15 to 16 degrees Celsius. Di Gallura is bottled young, allowing it to retain its minerality and freshness. And it is precisely this freshness that characterizes this Vermentino. This white wine was born and is loved throughout Italy, with its beautiful, fresh aroma of white fruit, minerals, straw, and a hint of fresh mint. The palate is enchanting, beautifully fresh and stimulating on the palate with abundant white fruit notes such as green apples. At the back of the palate, impressions of green herbs, freshly mown grass, and a hint of juicy pears emerge.
