Varietal(s) Chardonnay

The vineyards for this Chardonnay are located in the Arroya Secco region, halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Thanks to its location near the Pacific Ocean, it enjoys a cool climate with an extended growing season. And that's exactly what this grape variety loves: not too cold, but certainly not too warm. This allows the grapes to produce the best juice they have to offer. The estate's vineyards, inland from Big Sur, have deep, gravelly soils, ideal for premium Chardonnay cultivation. This unique combination of soil and climate produces relatively small berries with intense, concentrated flavors.

Top quality Chardonnay grapes

In the 1970s, the Zaninovich family purchased land here to plant vineyards. Initially, the grapes were sold to other wineries. The family knew all too well that they possessed top-quality grapes. This prompted them to consider making their own wine. In 2008, that moment arrived, and the first Scott wines were launched. The name was chosen in honor of Raymond Scott, the grandfather of owner Morgan Zaninovich. The wines were deliberately not made in the typical Californian style, but rather inspired by the wines of Burgundy. Half of the wine was fermented in oak barrels and the other half in stainless steel. Malolactic fermentation was then stopped in stainless steel to preserve more freshness. Finally, the Chardonnay matures for ten months in a combination of stainless steel and new and old French and American oak.

Scott Family Estate Chardonnay with vibrant aromas

The result is a Chardonnay with vibrant aromas of stone fruit, green apple, and slightly sweet oak. This Chardonnay has a creamy mid-palate with a soft finish and bright acidity. This dry white wine pairs wonderfully with corn or grilled salmon. It also pairs very well with soft cheeses.
