For this red wine from Springbok, we travel to South Africa, to a vineyard nestled in the heart of a nature reserve. The area is known for its wonderful climate for grapes, but the landscape is also shaped by the many Springboks that live in the reserve. With this in mind, Springbok was founded and today they produce the finest wines at very affordable prices. Two grape varieties are used for this red wine: Cabernet Sauvignon and the powerful Shiraz. A perfect combination for a full-bodied yet very smooth red wine. But before we get there, let's imagine ourselves among the old vineyards.
The old Springbok vineyard
With a very rich subsoil rich in lime and clay, the vines are deeply rooted in the South African sun. They easily absorb moisture and can withstand the hot afternoons. The fresh mountain breeze that blows through the vineyards provides much-needed cooling. This allows for a very gradual growth process, and the bunches are of unparalleled quality. When the Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz grapes are ripe, they are harvested separately, in the early morning and evening. This prevents damage to the bunches and preserves their freshness. Once both grapes have been vinified, the final blend for the red Springbok wine is determined.
Full and very powerful this Springbok Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon
We can tell you the result is a feast for the eyes, starting the moment you open the bottle. A beautiful aroma of black and red fruit, interspersed with subtle spices, bursts from the bottle. The aroma intensifies upon pouring, revealing a dark red color and delightful notes of blackberry and cherry, a true sensory delight. On the palate, this Springbok Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon is a South African gem. Wonderfully soft flavors of red fruit and slightly spicy notes from the Shiraz.
