The Sankt Kilian, or St. Kilian, winery is located in Thuringia, part of the Hildburghausen district. For years, they have been producing the finest wines from the Mosel and Rheinhessen regions, including this well-known Liebfraumilch. This modern winery employs all the latest techniques without compromising German traditions. The winery also holds the "Qualitätswein" designation, which indicates the quality of some wines. All in all, a German winery with a long and storied history, making it a well-known name when it comes to sweet white wines.

The old vineyard of Liebfraumilch

St. Kilian boasts a wide variety of vineyards, ensuring a consistently excellent harvest. But this isn't a given, explains the winemaker at St. Kilian. The vineyards are pruned extensively to allow the grapes to optimally soak up the sun, which allows them to build up plenty of sugars during ripening. After a long ripening period, the grapes are harvested early in the morning to prevent damage to the bunches. A gentle pressing follows, after which the ripe juice is left to mature for several months in St. Kilian's cellars. The taste and aroma become unique, explaining the popularity of this St. Kilian Liebfraumilch.

The scent and taste of St. Kilian Liebfraumilch

The name says it all: this wine is soft, delightfully sweet (lieblich), and a delight for those who don't enjoy dry wines. Upon opening the bottle, we immediately smelled a beautiful, sweet aroma of ripe tropical fruit with a hint of honey. In the glass, the aromas intensified, and we couldn't wait to take a sip. The ripe, sweet initial notes warm the palate. On the palate, we noted notes of ripe fruit, lychee, and, of course, a touch of apricot jam.
