Hooray! A big, fat Chardonnay from Germany, from none other than Weinhaus Steffen! The winery has been busy these past few years; development and innovation are a perfect fit for Weinhaus Steffen. Since 1794, they've been making the finest wines in Trittenheim, a village in the Mosel. The big breakthrough came just after the war, when Johann and Peter Steffen reorganized the vineyards and further improved the quality. Today, the winery is taking a major step in the field of oak-aged Chardonnay wines from Germany. Because this is truly a piece of craftsmanship!

The old Chardonnay vineyard of Steffen ST 27

Steffen's old vineyards are located in the Mosel region. Here, their Chardonnay bunches grow on very old vines. These vines have deep roots, easily absorbing moisture from the chalky soil. Thanks to their perfect sun exposure, the Chardonnay bunches ripen very evenly and become very full and firm. On the steep slopes, the bunches are finally harvested by hand. Each one is inspected and immediately brought to Weinhaus Steffen. Here, the golden-yellow juice is aged for a long time in oak barrels. It becomes extremely powerful and complex, with all the wonderful characteristics of the barrique.

What does the Steffen ST 27 Chardonnay Barrique taste like?

Upon opening the bottle, we immediately smell a ripe aroma of exotic fruit, accompanied by notes of vanilla and cedar. In the glass, it erupts into a beautiful golden yellow with a dark yellow hue. We immediately smell and think of a full fruit bowl with peaches, apricots, and exotic fruit. The aroma also has a lovely presence of oak, spices, and, of course, vanilla. On the palate, this Steffen ST 27 Chardonnay Barrique is unctuous, smooth, and has a rich, full flavor. The palate reveals lovely notes of tropical fruit, accompanied by toasted oak and a touch of vanilla cream. The finish is long and balanced with a lovely fullness and a light hint of citrus fruit.
