A delicious and tempting glass of white wine. The grapes come primarily from the Tabali vineyard, 24 kilometers from the coast. Old Viognier vines have been planted here, resulting in grapes with a powerful flavor and lovely acidity.
Unique wines from Viña Tabali
This unique winery was founded in 1993 by Guillermo Luksic. He decided to plant vineyards in an area more than three hundred kilometers north of the capital, Santiago. He was the first to cultivate wine in that region, despite all advice. He had an emotional connection to the area and felt that Limari was special and different from other wine regions. It is naturally arid, and many thought the climate was therefore unsuitable for viticulture. However, thanks to its proximity to the Pacific Ocean and its cold Humboldt Current, it is not too hot for quality viticulture. In the late afternoon, a cool, moist sea fog drifts relatively far inland. As a result, temperatures rarely rise above 25 degrees Celsius. The fog also brings the necessary humidity inland.
In the coastal region where this vineyard is located, the soil is stony and rich in limestone. The limestone rocks in the high peaks of the Andes were carried to the lower reaches of the valley by melting ice and deposited there as dust mixed with alluvial soil. This phenomenon characterizes the Limarí Valley and is reflected in the wines.
The grapes are pressed directly without crushing, ensuring rapid settling of the juice and thus preserving the grapes' acidity. The must is left to settle for twelve hours at low temperatures and then fermented with selected yeasts at controlled temperatures, never exceeding eighteen degrees Celsius. After fermentation, the wine is aged in stainless steel tanks.
What does Tabali Pedregoso Gran Reserva Viognier taste like?
A beautiful, subdued yellow color. The Tabali Pedregoso Gran Reserva Viognier has aromas of citrus, white pepper, ginger, and cherimoya (tropical cream apple) with a hint of white fruit against a floral background. Full-bodied. The pleasant acidity makes the wine very refreshing. Aromatic, subtle, highly complex, and fruity, with a fantastic character.
