You'll probably recognize it if you've ever been to Porto, because that's where we find the beautiful and one of Portugal's oldest port houses, Taylor's Port. Its long history dates back to the year Taylor's was founded by Job Bearsley, an English merchant who sought his fortune in Portugal, and more than succeeded. Now, all these years later, the port house is still family-owned and therefore completely independent. They also value tradition and still produce port wines in accordance with Job Bearsley's esteemed traditions. This 20-Year-Old Tawny is undoubtedly one of the finest ports in the Taylor's range. A unique blend of different vintages of port wines, the average age being 20 years. And that's a long time, we can tell you.
Completely hand-harvested for this Taylor's Port
The old vineyards are in magnificent condition and span various regions of the Douro. The climate is perfect, and the Touriga Francesa, Tinta Roriz, and Touriga Nacional grape varieties thrive. The rich soil structure, beautiful summers, and meticulous care contribute to the unparalleled quality of this 20-year-old port. After a long and balanced growing season, all the bunches are harvested by hand. This is practically inevitable, given the steep slopes where the vines grow. Each bunch is meticulously inspected, and only the finest are used in this Taylor's red port.
Full and very powerful this Taylor's 20 year old Port
After the harvest, the port is aged in oak barrels, also known as port pipes. Taylor's entire cellar is filled with the finest quality wooden barrels. After a long aging process, the blend for this 20-Year-Old Tawny Port is created. A crucial and meticulous task, but one we can leave to the Taylor's winemaker. The result is a unique port full of power and suppleness. The color is truly beautiful, light brown with an orange-gold glow. The aroma quickly reveals the most beautiful notes of raisins, light spices, and vanilla. From the first sip of this Taylor's Port 20-Year-Old Tawny, you'll immediately recognize its exceptional quality. Nuances of mocha, currants, plums, red fruit, and a hint of sweet spice. The finish is long and pleasantly sweet with plenty of depth.
