This refreshing Gaba do Xil Mencia is made entirely from the indigenous Mencia grape variety. It is very similar to Cabernet Franc. Yet, it is a surprising wine where all the flavors come together beautifully and are wonderfully balanced. The Atlantic influence on the vineyards has a positive effect on the freshness. The grapes come from various vineyards in the eastern municipalities of the DO.

Manual harvest for Telmo Rodriguez Gaba do Xil Mencia

Telmo Rodriguez is a well-known name in the wine world. He is one of the youngest winemakers in the Spanish wine industry. He learned his trade during his studies in Bordeaux and later in the Rhône region. He worked as a winemaker at his father's winery. But he left around 1994 to pursue his own wine journey. He considers himself a driving winemaker. He lives in Madrid but travels throughout Spain to make wine in various regions. In a very short time, he has put not only himself but also his wines on the map. Beautiful, high-quality wines made from local grapes and local wines. The grapes come from both our own vineyards and from local winegrowers. Viticulture is traditional in all areas, with altitudes ranging from 400 to 500 meters. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand, with strict selection based on quality. Fermentation in the cellar is carried out with indigenous yeasts. Finally, the wine matures for 12 months in stainless steel tanks.

The accessible Gaba do Xil Mencia

As soon as we pour the Gaba do Xil Mencia, we can immediately enjoy a delicious aroma of red fruit and blueberries. The taste is as elegant as the aroma. Fine complexity and refinement. An accessible wine, although this version is slightly less concentrated than we have come to expect from Spanish wines. A beautiful wine that pairs well with a cheese board.
