Portuguese winery Terra d'Alter has been part of our selection since early summer, but in this short time, it has already achieved crowd-pleaser status. Terra d'Alter proves that Portuguese wines are more than just port. High-quality, accessible, and above all, delicious. Terra d'Alter is located in Alentejo, a wine region in the southern half of Portugal. Although this Portuguese wine region is relatively unknown, it is the largest in Portugal in terms of surface area. Bordering the Spanish border, it enjoys an ideal climate for wine, allowing the grapes to ripen beautifully.

A two-hour drive from Lisbon, we find the Terra d'Alter winery in the Alto Alentejo region. Alentejo is predominantly flat with some hills and enjoys a Mediterranean climate. The soils are remarkable for their diversity, allowing the grapes to develop a unique character. Terra d'Alter produces a wide range of quality wines made from traditional grape varieties. Before founding Terra d'Alter, winemaker Peter Bright gained extensive experience in vineyards in South America and South Africa. It was precisely thanks to his exceptional expertise that Terra d'Alter's wines became a resounding success.

The fruity aromas of Terra d'Alter VER Verdelho

This Verdelho from Terra d'Alter is a gem. This wine is made entirely from Verdelho, a grape variety best known for its use in Madeira wines. It's also the Portuguese name for the famous Verdejo. Upon opening this bottle, a broad bouquet greets you. You smell subtle notes of white fruit, such as apple, ripe pear, and a hint of white peach. Refreshing. The taste of Terra d'Alter VER Verdelho is just as invigorating as its aroma. You'll taste notes of white fruit, as well as peach and citrus like grapefruit.
