Terras Gauda Etiqueta Negra is a superb DO Rías Baixas white wine from Bodegas Terras Gauda. It's a blend of Albarino, Loureiro, and Caino Blanco. The vines are grown in the Valle de O Rosal region near the Atlantic Ocean, with a mild climate perfect for these grape varieties. The result is a perfectly balanced, fruity wine.
The perfect blend for Terras Gauda Etiqueta Negra O Rosal
Bodegas Terras Gauda, founded in 1980, is located in the DO Rías Baixas, a region where excellent white wines are produced. They own the largest number of hectares and produce high-quality wines. The Albariño and Caíño grapes come from lower-lying plots, meaning plots with more humidity, allowing harvests to take place much earlier. Wines made with these grapes have greater concentration, lower acidity, and more body. The Albariño grape is harvested very early, while the Caíño grape is the last to be picked. The Loureiro grape comes from the highest-lying plots in Terras Gauda's possession. These plots have less humidity and cooler temperatures, resulting in slower ripening, which gives the lively Loureiro wine its intense aromas and smooth palate.
Manual harvest for Terras Gauda Etiqueta Negra O Rosal
The grapes for this Etiqueta Negra O Rosal are harvested entirely by hand in late September and early October. The grapes are pressed separately, after which only the finest must is selected. Alcoholic fermentation with wild yeast follows at a controlled temperature. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged in new French oak barrels. After approximately six months, the wine is then aged for another eight months in stainless steel tanks before bottling.
The result is a golden-yellow wine with aromas of orange peel, mandarin, ripe pear, chamomile, cream, and fresh toast on the nose. The palate reveals notes of lime, lychee, melon, almonds, a hint of coconut, and vanilla. It finishes with an intense finish and beautiful acidity.
