A lesser-known wine from Terrazas, but just as delicious, is this Terrazas de Los Andes Cabernet Sauvignon. Cabernet Sauvignon is found all over the world. Besides France, Cabernet Sauvignon also feels very much at home in the Argentine climate. The founders of Terrazas were perfectly aware of this when the first vineyards for Terrazas were planted in Argentina in 1959. Thanks to the company's French heritage, the winemakers knew better than anyone how to handle this beautiful grape. Now, you might be wondering what this French heritage is all about. Well, the owner and founder of Terrazas is the world-renowned Champagne house Moët & Chandon. Besides these famous Champagnes, Terrazas' Argentinian wines are also highly sought after worldwide.

The old Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard of Terrazas

The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes for this Terrazas de Los Andes Cabernet Sauvignon are planted on terraces at an altitude of 980 meters above sea level. These terraces are also known as Perdriel Terraces. Here we find the best terroir for Cabernet Sauvignon. Surrounded by the Andes Mountains, the grapes thrive in a safe environment. The warm sunshine combined with the wind that blows through the Andes creates a perfect climate. Natural irrigation is provided by meltwater from the permanently snow-capped peaks. At perfect ripeness in late March or early April, the grapes are harvested entirely by hand. After maceration and fermentation for 21 days, this red Argentinian wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, of which one-third is new oak. After bottling, the wine returns to the cellars for 6 months of bottle aging. After this period the moment has arrived: the wine can be tasted!

What does Terrazas de Los Andes Cabernet taste like?

Upon pouring, we were immediately captivated by the deep red color, which displays a beautiful purple sheen. A vigorous swirl of the wine in the glass unleashes rich aromas of blackcurrant, fig, olive, spice, and vanilla. The palate is deep, full, and wonderfully powerful. The rich nuances of black fruit are perfectly balanced with hints of spice and cocoa. The long finish is phenomenal and powerful with pleasant tannins. This red wine pairs wonderfully with aged cheeses, but also definitely with a good Argentinian steak!
