Pesquera Crianza is a classic in the more refined Spanish wine segment. The Tinto Pesquera winery was founded in 1975 by Alejandro Fernández, seven years before the DO Ribera del Duero was established with the simplest of means. The range features quality wines from a unique region. Fernandez knows how to make the most of every possible condition, resulting in this perfect Crianza.
Perfectly ripe Tempranillo for Pesquera Crianza
From a young age, Fernandez Rivera's lifelong dream was to own his own winery and produce superb red wines. Although the Fernandez Rivera family enjoyed early success in the production and sale of harvesting machinery, investing in their own winery was a significant risk, as the Ribera del Duero was still a largely unknown wine-growing region at the time and, aside from the exceptional character of Vega Sicilia, had no reputation for high-quality wines. However, the family recognized the region's potential and had the vision to produce concentrated, high-quality wines. The area is situated relatively high, with altitudes ranging from 500 to 900 meters. The climate here is ideal for ripe grapes.
The harvest is carried out with great care, ensuring the grapes are optimally ripe. At the winery, the bunches are destemmed and the grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks. This process takes place at a temperature of 22 to 27 degrees Celsius, completely naturally, without the addition of any extraneous yeasts. After fermentation, the grapes are pressed. The young wine then rests for 20 days in stainless steel tanks and is then transferred to new American oak barrels where it ages for 14 months. Finally, it is bottle-aged for another 6 months.
The fresh aromas of Tinto Pesquera Crianza
The Pesquera Crianza shines beautifully in the glass, garnet-red. As soon as you pour it, you can immediately enjoy pleasantly fresh aromas with notes of red berries like raspberries, along with hints of balsamic vinegar. The palate is pleasantly sweet with an attractive fruity character. Notes of licorice and balsamic vinegar follow on to an elegant finish with a hint of brioche. A delicious wine to pair with a barbecue.
