Tormaresca Carrubo Primitivo di Manduria

Near the town of Fragagnano in Manduria, we find the Tenuta Carrubo estate. The 40-hectare vineyards are planted with historic grape varieties. Hot summers with significant temperature fluctuations between day and night characterize the area. This brings its own challenges, but leave that to the winemakers of Tormaresca. The grapes are cultivated with great passion and dedication, resulting in, among other things, this Primitivo with elegant tannins and a rich flavor.

The estates of Tormaresca

Tradition and a love of wine converge at the Tormaresca winery. The winery has a long history in Puglia and combines classic winemaking with innovative techniques. At the helm is the Antinori family, who began investing in the region in 1998. Tormaresca has two estates in renowned areas for producing high-quality wines: the Bocca di Lupo estate in the heart of Castel del Monte and Masseria Maime in one of the most beautiful areas of Upper Salento. These allow the winery to vinify unique and distinctive wines. The Primitivo grapes are harvested when they are overripe. They are then transported to the winery for gentle crushing. Maceration on the skins follows for eight to ten days, during which the skins are gently pumped over. This allows the wine to develop all the aromas and beautiful color this grape has to offer. Malolactic fermentation then takes place in stainless steel tanks. Finally, the wine is aged for 18 months in the cellar and then another 18 months in the bottle.

The Carrubo Primitivo di Manduria emerges in the glass with an intense ruby ​​red color. We immediately enjoy rich and complex aromas of red fruit, cherries, plums, and spicy notes of licorice and tobacco. The palate is soft and full of elegant, beautifully balanced tannins. A pleasant freshness on the palate is achieved through the fruity notes and a fruity finish, as you would expect from the Primitivo grape.
