In the Salento wine region of southern Italy, we find the beautiful Torre de Lancia winery, part of the Velarino family. The vineyards for this red Rosso Fuoco are filled with Negroamaro and Primitivo grapes. These two complement each other perfectly, producing a full-bodied and powerful wine. In recent years, significant investment has been made in the vineyards, with some replanted and older ones maintained. This results in a harvest with abundant freshness and youth from the young vines and the richness and finesse of the older vines. The winemaker at Torre de Lancia is proud of his red wine, which boasts the smoothness and ripeness you would expect from a Salento wine.

The harvest for the Rosso Fuoco Negroamaro Primitivo

As we mentioned, the vineyards are located in the Salento region, where the grapes are treated to a perfect climate. Plenty of sunshine and a cool ocean breeze provide the grapes with a slow, balanced ripening process, a characteristic we can taste. The Negroamaro grapes are harvested first, always early in the morning. Once all the Negroamaro grapes have been harvested, the Primitivo grapes are harvested about two weeks later. Upon arrival at Torre de Lancia, the grapes are thoroughly inspected and controlled. Only the finest bunches are used in this Rosso Fuoco.

The smell and taste of the Torre de Lancia

Upon opening the wine, we knew for sure: it was a soft and fruity wine. We immediately received impressions of dried black fruit with a touch of licorice. In the glass, this Rosso Fuoco blew a beautiful ruby red with a light purple rim. It exuded aromas, bringing to mind blackberries and cherries, complemented by newspapers and sweet spices. On the palate, plums and sweet cherries caress the tongue, complemented by blackberries and spices. A touch of vanilla and blueberries lingered on the cheeks, which was very pleasant. The velvety finish completes the picture of this wine from Salento.
