The Sauvignon Blanc grape in Spain is a legacy of founder Miguel Torres, who studied wine in France. Upon his return to Penedes, he brought with him several French grape varieties, including Sauvignon Blanc. However, because temperatures can rise more in Spain than in Spain, these grapes must be planted at a higher altitude.

The special vineyard in Penedes

The Fransola vineyard is one of the highest-altitude vineyards Penedes has to offer. This is because the daytime temperatures are high, but because the vineyard is relatively close to the sea, the nighttime temperatures in the vineyards cool down somewhat. This all benefits the development of the Sauvignon Blanc grapes. Torres has planted 25 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc on this vineyard specifically for Fransola. It is considered one of the finest vineyards Torres owns. After hand-harvesting and vinification, the aging process for Torres Fransola Sauvignon Blanc begins. The white wine is aged for four to five months in American oak. This prevents the wine from becoming too heavy, but gives it just that touch of character that makes Torres Fransola Sauvignon Blanc so special.
