The success story doesn't stop with the red wines of Toscana Da Uve Leggermente; the family winery Duca di Saragnano is now also producing a white wine. One that has conquered the wine world within two months, receiving an impressive 97 points, which is exceptional for a wine in this price range. The Duca di Saragnano winery was founded by the family in 1938. Altero and his wife, Maria Franceschini, wanted to make wines using modern techniques while preserving Italian traditions. They initially found happiness in Tuscany, where they planted various grape varieties. For this white wine, they ultimately planted Chardonnay, Garganega, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon Blanc on old, powerful soil. This proved to be a success, as the family has now been making exquisite wines for four generations.
The harvest of the white Toscana Da Uve Leggermente
Nestled in the heart of Tuscany lie these beautiful vineyards. There, the grapes receive ample sunshine but also plenty of cool breezes and falling nighttime temperatures. Because the vineyard is situated at a higher elevation, the grapes retain their freshness, making them perfect for producing a powerful and refreshing wine. The mature soil structure contributes to the harvest, making the grapes available for harvest invaluable. Full-bodied and aromatic with just the right amount of freshness, according to the winemaker.
Full and very powerful this
This white version of Toscana Da Uve Leggermente is made with dried grapes, known as Appassite. Before it reaches this freshness, however, the harvest is hand-harvested, and each bunch is thoroughly inspected. Only the finest bunches nourish the wine. A characteristic of this white wine is that some of the bunches are dried. The grapes are curdled and lose some of their weight, resulting in a fuller, creamier juice. This technique is not often seen in white wines, but the result is stunning. It's no wonder this wine achieved such a stellar score. It all begins with the pour, as we discover a thick structure and a very inviting golden yellow color. Nosing the glass, we noted impressions of tropical fruit, apricots, lemon tart, and hints of jasmine and citrus peel. The palate is enchanting, with plenty of ripe yellow fruit on the palate, accompanied by hints of grapefruit and lemon. The beautiful structure results in a lively flavor with a mild finish. What a gem, and it's no wonder this wine is so highly regarded: soft, fresh with the right balance.
